Following the successful national mobilisation on 29 January and the even larger turnout in protests and strikes on 19 March, the eight main national trade union confederations have issued another joint call for nationwide demonstrations on 1 May. They are also calling on their member organisations to mobilise throughout April in preparation for the 1 May events. The unions continue to call for increases to public sector pay and an end to government policies that are increasing precarious employment in the public sector and cutting funding that is undermining service quality.

Confederations unite in general strike
The UGT and CGTP-IN trade union confederations have both called for a general strike on 27 June in protest at the austerity measures being implemented by the government and pushed by the European Commission, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund. Confederations unite in anti-austerity protest
The three trade union confederations came together on 23 September in a demonstration in central Brussels against the austerity policies threatened by the political parties discussing a coalition government. The unions warn of a threat to purchasing power, cuts to public sector pensions as well as cuts to health and social services spending. Confederation plans further strike action
The ADEDY civil service confederation has warned of further strike action in March or April in protest at cuts to public sector pay and pensions. ADEDY joined with the GSEE private sector confederation in a general strike on 11 March. Following a two-day strike on 16-17 March, energy workers have threatened another 48-hour strike unless the government withdraws a 7% pay cut and 10% cut in pensions.
