Gas workers protest over gas prices and pay

On Wednesday, August 6, the Trade Union of Gas Facilities Workers of Ukraine organized a demonstration to demand a review of the tariffs for gas transportation and delivery. More than 3,000 trade union members - employees of gas distribution companies picketed the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. Ivan Yarovy, chairman of the trade union, said that higher tariffs would enable gas distribution companies to increase the wages of all their employees. Besides, regional gas distribution companies' low tariffs for transportation of natural gas were the main reason for the increase in the number of accidents in gas networks. Participants in the rally warmly welcomed a letter of support from PSI general secretary, Peter Waldorf.

Confederation organises protests over pay and prices

The Cartel-Alfa trade union confederation organised a series of rallies around the country from 17 October leading up to a national demonstration in Bucharest on 20 October. The confederation is calling for action to tackle surging inflation and for increases to pay and pensions. The actions were supported by EPSU affiliate Hipocrat which organises in the health sector.

Nationwide strikes and protests over pay and prices

The three trade union confederations ACV/CSC, ABVV/FGTB and ACLVB/CGSLB organised a day of action and strikes over pay, prices and welfare benefits on 9 November. The confederations are calling on the government and employers to negotiate pay increases to help address the cost-of-living crisis and in particular to changes in the law to provide trade unions with more room to manoeuvre when negotiating on pay rises. The unions also want government support to help with energy bills and for increase social security payments. The confederations are determined to defend the system of pay indexation
