Trade unions representing workers in the private health sector report say they will continue to organise actions following the a national demonstration on 22 May. The collective agreement covering the private health sector should have been re-negotiated and renewed from 1 January 2005 but 29 months on there is still no progress.

The three Italian union federations are continuing to campaign over the long delayed collective agreement for the private health sector. Following a sit-in demonstration outside the head office of the ARIS organisation that represents religious healthcare institutions, the unions are now planning a fortnight of action around the country from 3 June to 13 June. The Sanitas health union is continuing to put pressure on the government over health sector pay and the need to negotiate a collective agreement for the sector. A recent union delegation from across the country met the health minister to call for assurances that this year's pay rise will be fully funded and that bonuses will apply to all health workers. The union underlined its determination to pursue its demands with the promise of another delegation going to the labour ministry on 20 March and plans for a national rally in Bucharest in April.
The FP-CGIL, CISL-FP and UIL-FPL public service federations are continuing their campaign to force the AIOP and ARIS private health employer organisations to negotiate a collective agreement 12 years after the last one was signed. The latest initiative follows a meeting with the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces where the unions secured a commitment to push for a change in legislation on the accreditation of private providers that would require them to negotiate a collective agreement with the three recognised trade unions in line with the negotiations in the public sector.
