Working Time - EPSU response to Commission Consultation

The Health and Social Services Standing Committee has initiated the EPSU response to the European Commission Communication on certain aspects of the working time directive. The position will respond to the three key questions in the communication by stating that; the opt-out (Article 18-1) should be deleted; the definition of working time as stated by the European Court of Justice in the SIMAP and Jaeger Cases should be respected and that the consultation, as an integral part of European social policy, should focus on input from the recognised social partners. The official EPSU position is due to be adopted at the 4 March EPSU Executive Committee. The draft position will take account of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) submission, which is due to be adopted on 17 March.
The deadline for responses to the Commission Communication is 30 March (more details to follow...).
