Supporting campaigns, strikes and protests
Solidarity is a core area of our joint European trade union work There are common elements to many of the actions of public service unions as we fight for better pay and working conditions or when we defend trade union rights or protest against privatisation and attacks on public services. Any expression of solidarity is welcomed by unions and it can be a real boost to their campaign when EPSU, its affiliates and other trade union organisations, not only send messages of support but also messages of protest to companies, employers and governments. This briefing gives examples of our solidarity work in recent years.
PSI World Congress in solidarity with Ukrainian workers and people
The hundreds of delegates to the PSI World Congress stood up in solidarity with the Ukrainian delegation, applauding the bravery of the working class standing up to Russian imperialism following the aggression on 24 February 2022.
Reinstate the Georgian ambulance workers! Stop the attacks on trade unionists!
Earlier this year, 63 ambulance workers were sacked by the Emergency Situations Coordination and Urgent Assistance Centre of Georgia as a response to their involvement in the HSMCTU health workers' pay campaign.
Study highlights poor job quality for essential workers
The Eurofound research agency has published a policy brief which underlines the need to tackle poor job quality among a range of essential occupations, including in the health and care, food systems, cleaning and refuse, transport and protective services sectors, along with manual workers in general. The report argues that these workers’ health and well-being were at risk during the COVID-19 pandemic and continue to be post-pandemic contributing to the labour shortages that persist in these sectors. EPSU stands with French unions against the government’s repression
After the persecution of several FNME-CGT trade union leaders, including the General Secretary Sebastien Menesplier, CGT and other French unions gathered in front of Montmorency gendarmerie, where Menesplier was summoned, on 6 September.
Call for an end to Russian war crimes against journalists in Ukraine
The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), EPSU and over 20 other organisations are calling for action against the Russian Federation for the war crimes committed against journalists. The perpetrators should be held accountable.
