Exchange with the European Commission on public services and TiSA (Trade in Services Agreement)

(14 May 2014) On 14 May EPSU organised a delegation to meet representatives of DG Trade of the European Commission to discuss concerns regarding the inclusion of public services in the trade in services agreement (TisA), as well as in bilateral EU agreements such CETA (with Canada) and TTIP (with the United States).

The delegation raised issues covered by the recent PSI study on TiSA that describes how these trade agreements could hinder the development of accessible and quality public services. These concerns are also reflected in the results of the recent consultation on TiSA published by the European Commission.

Taking part in the meeting were Penny Clarke EPSU, Daniele Basso, ETUC, Louise Hoj Larsen ETUCE (European Trade Union Committee for Education), Yorgos Altintzis, ITUC (International Trade Union Confederation) and Hans Kotzan, Kommunal Sweden.
