Union consulting over social work deal

After more than a year of campaigning the FNV has agreed a new deal covering social work which is now out to members for consultation. The union is pleased that the agreement covers two important demands - job security and purchasing power. The agreement puts on obligation on municipalities to find alternative work if employees are made redundant. There is a commitment from the government to provide local authorities with funding to cover pay increases in the social work sector. The exact increases are not yet known but should maintain purchasing power over the course of the agreement. The year-end bonus will go up from 3% of annual salary to 3.75% and in March 2016, all employees will receive a lump sum of €325 (pro-rata for part-time employees). The union also managed to rule out a number of demands from the employers that would have worsened the collective agreement.

Union consults over hospital pay deal

After a series of warning strikes involving over 3000 workers, public service union ver.di has negotiated a new 28-month agreement covering 28000 employees of four university clinics in the Baden-Württemberg region. The deal is worth 7.1% paid in two stages (1 November 2019 and 1 February 2020). As a result of legislation that provides funding to ensure increased staffing of nursing and care personnel, these workers will get an extra EUR 200 a month. But ver.di has negotiated with the four hospitals to cover more occupations than those specified in the law.

Trade unions consult over private sector deal

After a final, lengthy round of bargaining, the cross-sector negotiations covering the private sector ended in the early hours of 8 June. The three trade union confederations are in the process of consulting with their members on the outcome. The main development is the proposed increase in the minimum wage – the first since 2008 – which will see an increase in the monthly amount from EUR 1625.72 to EUR 1702 in April 2022. Commission consults over European Works Council Directive

On 20 February the European Commission finally initiated the long-awaited consultation over possible revisions to the European Works Council Directive. The social partners have until 3 April to respond to a number of specific issues set out in the Commission's consultation document.
