World Water Day 2022

World Water Day 22 March 2022

(22 March 2022) To mark World Water Day 2022, we share the story of Yorgos in Thessaloniki, Greece. In the latest update on a long fight for public ownership, the Council of State voted 19 to 1 that the public must have the right to control the water companies.

As the backbone of the right2water.eu European Citizens’ Initiative, EPSU calls on the European Commission should stop its push for the liberalisation of water and sanitation services. Promoting the market to provide these services means that those who can afford more might get better services and those who can afford less will get worse services.

Worldwide 800 million people still lack access to water and over 2 billion people do not have access to sanitation. Europe can and should do more to make sure that people in other parts of the world can also enjoy the human right to water and sanitation.
