Workers in SITA consider the future of waste in GdF-Suez

(October 1, 2008) A range of issues was addressed by the first ever meeting of trade union representatives of SITA, the waste company of Suez Environment, part of the GdF-Suez group.

These included developments in SITA, the merger between GdF and Suez, the future European Works Council and the implementation of the agreement on social guarantees agreed earlier this year. The CEO of SITA Netherlands/Benelux sketched the establishment of a new company SITA News that would bring together business operations of SITA in the Benelux and Germany.

The union and works council representatives expressed their concern about having adequate information and consultation and the consequences for the supervisory boards in Germany. The participants agreed a number of actions and their implementation.

The meeting brought together EWC and works council members, trade union officers and trade union delegates from SITA companies from Belgium, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and UK. French colleagues were excused.

The seminar was organised by EPSU and the Dutch union FNV Bondgenoten, 23-24 September 2008, Amsterdamn
