(18 April 2008) The following issues were considered by the social partners in the European gas industry:
- The internal market for the gas sector. It was not possible to find agreement over a joint letter regarding the social consequences of the Commission proposals. This will be discussed further between the secretariats.
- Maxime Cerutti of BusinessEurope presented the Violence at Work agreement as agreed between ETUC and the European employers organisations. The social partners agreed to push the implementation and request members to have at least one discussion on it, and how they want to deal with it.
- A statement on South East Europe was adopted and the social partners further discussed the programme for a work shop (27 May) to prepare the Social Forum for the Balkan countries.
- The social partners further had a first exchange of views regarding the 2009-2010 workprogramme. The following issues will be considered: Corporate social responsibility, health and safety, equality and restructuring.
Didier Baur presided the meeting. The next meetings will be 12 September (Work group) and 17 November 2008 (plenary), Brussels.
