Unions from Central Asia prepare for Congress and discuss cost of living

EPSU Central Asia Constituency Meeting, 28 September 2022

(5 October 2022) The Kazakh unionists reported about rising fuel prices. The government introduced a price ceiling and fixed prices. Underfunding of the health system remains an issue. A new problem is the rising housing prices and rents following the influx of Russian people fleeing the mobilisation.  The government has introduced several measures to help people in Tadzhikistan. Digitalisation of public services is a major topic in Central Asian countries and the work and materials of EPSU and PSI will be useful.

The unions selected the representatives for the committees that are preparing the Congress. For the Constitutional Working group a new round of consultation is foreseen.

We discussed the possibility of a WHO-Europe meeting in Astana in 2023 as a follow up to the EPSU-ILO health meeting in Batumi.

The meeting took place 28 September 2022 online.
