UK Strike on 10 July also effects Northern Ireland - NIPSA part of the action

(9 July 2014) The unions have informed of the many rallies, marches and demonstrations that are taking place across the UK. Also in Northern Ireland local government and other public services workers will be coming out on strike 10 July. They are joined by EPSU Northern Ireland affiliate NIPSA which has also voted YES to the strike action in support for a decent pay raise for the workers in local government after years of pay freezes, cuts in allowances that have eroded purchasing power wih all most 20%. We wish all an effective action. The EPSU General Secretary will join the rally of the public service unions in London 10 July.

Widespread action across Northern Ireland

Thousands of workers across Northern Ireland took industrial action on 13 March in protest over privatisation, job cuts and cuts to health, education and other public services. Massive public service strike in Northern Ireland

Public service unions have organised one of the biggest strikes and mobilisations in Northern Ireland for many years as they try to put pressure on the UK government to stop delaying a pay offer for public service workers. The government claims that its hands are tied by the political stalemate in the province and the lack of a functioning Assembly. The unions argue that this is an excuse and that the money is available to make a pay offer immediately. EPSU affiliates UNISON, Unite, GMB and RCN are involved in the action, along with NIPSA, RCM, CSP, SoR, BDA as well as the teaching unions
