Solidarity with UK #HeartUnions campaign

8 February 2016, Brussels

This week (8-14 February 2016) EPSU shows solidarity with the TUC’s http://heartunions.org/ campaign against the Conservative government’s Trade Union Bill. Coinciding with Valentine’s Day, #heartunions is an opportunity to showcase the vital work of unions and celebrate our key successes in improving the rights and conditions of workers. Activities have been organised up and down the UK, and supporters are encouraged to share their positive stories and photos with the TUC and on social media.

You can read more information about #heartunions week here: http://heartunions.org/

EPSU was today (8 February) joined by colleagues from the ETUC, GMB-Brussels, CGSP/ACOD, ACV CSC public service union and IndustriALL in a flash action of support for the campaign in front of the UK Embassy in Brussels. We will be forwarding our photos to the TUC and sharing them on social media and invite you to do the same.

From maternity leave to the minimum wage, to anti-discrimination legislation and whistleblower protection, trade unions have a proud and lengthy history of achievements. These battles have been hard won, and strikes and other forms of industrial action have been an essential part of this struggle. Which is why attempts to curb these rights and place limits on the tools at our disposal are a dangerous and deliberate attack that is designed to weaken the voice of workers. If the UK Trade Union Bill is passed, outsourcing and privatisation will become easier and cuts in funding, staff and wages more straightforward. We cannot not let this happen and must raise our voices loud and clear. Our fight lives on – we hope you will join us.
