Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee for  Hospitals and Healthcare Sector approves joint solidarity message to Ukrainian colleagues

(18 March 2022) On March 11, the Working Group 1 meeting of the Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee for Hospitals and Healthcare sector took place online. The meeting was chaired by Kirsi Sillanpää, President of the Health and Social Services committee at EPSU, and Marta Branca, Secretary General of HOSPEEM. Among other issues, the social dialogue partners discussed and approved a joint statement  of solidarity with Ukrainian employers, trade unions and workers in the hospital and healthcare sector. Further, the solidarity statement condemns the attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure such as hospitals.

Other topics on the agenda included feedback on the European Health Data Space technical session with DG SANTE, updates on the EU-OSHA ESENER study, a multi-sectoral project on the role of social partners in preventing third-party violence and harassment at work and the updating of the policy orientation document on creating a resilient hospital sector in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Further, there were   presentations from Ralf Kleinschmidt, Policy officer – Risk management policy, DG EMPL Health and Safety at Work Unit and Daniel Vencovsky - RPA Prague on preparing Guidance on Hazardous Medicinal Products in the health sector, followed by a discussion that considered how guidance from various countries should be integrated. The HOSPEEM-EPSU work programme 2020-2023 was also discussed, including an overview of the activities in 2022.

Finally, social  partners discussed the updated Framework of Actions on Recruitment and Retention document.
