Resistance against unfair trade agreements continues in Amsterdam

(24 October 2016) A very lively and diverse crowd of people shouted NO to CETA and demanded a stop of negotiations on TTIP and TISA during a manifestation for fair trade in Amsterdam this Saturday. A highpoint was when 8000 voices waved their solidarity and shouted Tous Ensemble with EPSU’s General Secretary to the Walloon Prime Minister Paul Magnette. This Belgian region made clear that the concerns over the impact on investment, public services and democracy need to be taken serious. The EPSU representative underlined how CETA does not bring new rights for workers, threatens public services and our democracy.

Other speakers came from FNV, Foodwatch, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth/ Mileudefensie, ConsumersUnion, Farmers and concerned businessmen. The manifestation was organized by a broad coalition of the Dutch trade union confederation FNV, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, SOMO, TNI and Foodwatch. It took place 22 October 2016 in Amsterdam.
