Preparations underway for EPSU Youth Conference in Bucharest

EPSU Youth Steering Committee

(21 March 2024) The Steering Committee of EPSU’s Youth Network has been hard at work preparing its annual meeting, which will be held in June 2024 in Bucharest, Romania on the eve of the EPSU Congress.

The Youth Conference – held every five years in line with the EPSU Congress – will be a valuable moment for the Youth Network to reflect on the past five years, an era filled with ‘unprecedented moment’ after ‘unprecedented moment’. Over the past five years, young trade unionists have lived through a global pandemic, a return to war in Europe, an escalation of conflicts in the Middle East, the ever-shifting landscape of inflation and cost-of-living, the threats and realities of climate change, and the rise of the far right. For many members of the EPSU Youth Network, these events account for a massive portion of their working lives – and their realities must be reflected in EPSU’s work.

Preparing for the meeting in Romania, members of EPSU’s Youth Network Steering Committee have been considering how to guide the Network through the next five years. The Steering Committee are meeting regularly to prepare the agenda and content for its Youth Conference – to be held in Bucharest on 15 and 16 June with the support of FES. During the meeting, the Youth Network will be presented with guidelines on the operation of the Steering Committee, a document which the Steering Committee are finalising. The new Steering Committee will be elected during the Conference. Meeting attendees will reflect on the work and activities of the Network from the previous five years and prepare the work for the following five. The Conference will prepare youth input into the EPSU Congress.

If you are interested in participating in the work of EPSU’s Youth Network or know a young trade unionist (under 35) who may be interested, please get in touch with Chloe Kenny ([email protected]).
