José Manuel Marques acquitted
(15 February) The Court yesterday acquitted José Manuel Marques from the charge of disobedience that led to their arrest by the police on January 18, after a plenary meeting of the Common Front a trade union joint effort against the cuts].
The national leader of the STAL said outside the court that this is a victory for freedom of association and that his acquittal reinforces the unity and determination of workers in the fight against right-wing policies of the Socrates Government.
EPSU welcomes de decision by the Portuguese judiciary and send a warm salute to José Manuel.

O Tribunal absolveu hoje José Manuel Marques da acusação de desobediência que motivou a sua detenção pela PSP em 18 de Janeiro, após um plenário da Frente Comum.
O dirigente nacional do STAL afirmou à saída do tribunal que esta é uma vitória da liberdade sindical e que a sua absolvição reforça a unidade e a determinação dos trabalhadores na luta contra a política de direita do Governo PS/Sócrates.
