Local public services in 2030: Chair of EPSU's local and regional government committee debates challenges and opportunities at CEMR's Congress

2016.04.21 panel CEMR discussion

(21 April 2016) Increasing pressure on financial resources, changing demography, redistribution of powers, digitalisation, citizens’ demands and expectations, international trade agreements, and more - local public services and their management are facing constantly challenges and have to adapt to the changing environment. Local authorities engage in more efficient ways to organise their services: they share capacities and build joint structures, but have to ensure that they are in line with EU internal market rules.

This was the introduction to a high-level panel discussion in the Congress of the Council for Municapalities and Regions (CEMR) that took place on 21 April 2016.

Taking part in the panel was Mads Samsing, Chair of EPSU’s local and Regional government committee (left in the picture). In his contribution to the discussion Mads stressed the need for skilled and motivated workers in the sector and the role of the social dialogue committee for regional and local and regional government that brings together members from EPSU and CEMR.
