Launch of the EPSU report on TRAINING, JOBS AND DECENT WORK FOR YOUNG PEOPLE in the public sector

(17 January 2013) We are pleased to invite you to the launch of the EPSU report on TRAINING, JOBS AND DECENT WORK FOR YOUNG PEOPLE in the public sector. This report examines the extent to which young workers are employed in three sections of the public services and are affected by precarious employment in these sectors. It also looks into the approaches adopted by EPSU affiliates, public sector unions, to respond to the challenge posed by the treatment of young workers in public services, whether by collective bargaining, campaigns or internal structures. The event will count with the presence of Nick Clark (researcher of the Working Lives Research Institute, London University, author of the report), Céline Moreau (Jeunes FGTB) and Pierre Ledecq (Jeunes CSC). The event will take place on Tuesday 22nd January 2013 @ EPSU offices , 40 Rue Joseph II 1000 Brussels (metro Arts-Loi) 3rd floor, from 10.30 until 13h. The meeting will take place in French and English (no interpretation provided). The report will be presented in French, English and Dutch. Refreshments provided. Nous avons le plaisir de vous inviter à la présentation du rapport de la FSESP sur la formation, l’emploi et le travail décent pour les jeunes dans le secteur public. Ce rapport examine dans quelle mesure les jeunes travailleurs sont occupés dans les trois pans des services publics et y sont confrontés à la précarité de l'emploi. Il se penche également sur les approches adoptées par les membres de la FSESP afin de répondre au défi posé par le traitement des jeunes travailleurs dans les services publics, que ce soit dans le cadre de la négociation collective, de campagnes ou de structures internes. Cet événement sera rehaussé par la présence de Nick Clark (chercheur au Working Lives Research Institute, Université de Londres et auteur du rapport), de Céline Moreau (Jeunes FGTB) et de Pierre Ledecq (Jeunes CSC). L’événement aura lieu le mardi 22 janvier 2013 de 10h30 à 13h00 dans les locaux de la FSESP, 40 rue Joseph II (3ème étage) à 1000 Bruxelles (métro Arts-Loi). Le rapport sera présenté en anglais, français et néerlandais et la réunion pourra se dérouler en anglais et français (mais sans interprétation). Des rafraichissements seront fournis. Wij hebben het genoegen jullie uit te nodigen voor de presentatie van het EPSU rapport TRAINING, BANEN EN PASSEND WERK VOOR JONGE MENSEN in de openbare sector. Dit rapport onderzoekt in welke mate jonge werknemers in de drie afdelingen van de openbare diensten tewerkgesteld zijn en in welke mate ze worden geraakt door onzekere werkgelegenheid in deze sectoren. Het onderzoekt ook de aanpak door EPSU leden, de bonden in de openbare sector, om te reageren op de uitdaging die de behandeling van jonge werknemers in de openbare diensten oproept, hetzij door collectieve onderhandelingen, campagnes of interne structuren. Op dit evenement zullen aanwezig zijn Nick Clark (onderzoeker bij de Working Lives Research Institute, London University, schrijver van het rapport), Céline Moreau (Jongeren FGTB/ABVV) en Pierre Ledecq (jongeren CSC/ACV). De presentatie is op dinsdag 22 januari 2013 van 10.30 uur tot 13.00 uur in de EPSU kantoren, 40 Rue Joseph II - 1000 Brussel (metro Kunst-Wet), 3de verdieping. De vergadering vindt plaats in het Frans en het Engels (geen tolken aanwezig). Het rapport wordt in het Frans, Engels en Nederlands gepresenteerd. Federation launches decent pay campaign

The FSP-UGT public services federation has launched a campaign on public sector pay to begin to address the estimated loss of 25% in purchasing power since the first pay cuts were imposed in 2010 and in the view of the continuing freeze on pay foreseen for the current year. The union points out that the pay cuts have coincided with a 500000 job cuts across the public sector and a further 400000 job cuts expected to result from the reform of local government. Decent pay and training for social care workers

The GÖD public service union has renewed its call for government action over the pay and training of health and social care workers. The union says that along with extra funding for 24-hour care the government should ensure that workers have proper training and that care workers should no longer be left alone to look after older people without the necessary training. The union argues that both care workers and the people they care for need the protection of proper training and that a better paid job with formal qualifications will help attract the much needed additional workers that are
