(17 November 2008) Over 2000 people participated in a demonstration against the privatisation of Spanish water company Canal Isabel II, 13 November 2008, Madrid. The manifestation was organised by the Platform against the privatisation of Canal Isabel II, and which argues for a high quality public water services.
EPSU affiliated unions from CCOO and UGT participated in the actions. EPSU has also sent a letter to the Spanish authorities and Spanish politicians indicating that we do not agree with the privatisation of water services and that the Madrid's (Conservative) government proposals lack substance, are ideologically motivated and do not take account of the international action experience of other major cities. Several cities and including Paris are remunicipalising their water services.
