The European inter-sectoral social partners Business Europe/ UEAPME/ CEEP and ETUC signed an Agreement on violence at work, 26 April 2007. The agreement aims at establishing a general framework at the European level to be implemented by the members of the signatory parties, including their members in the candidate countries, in accordance with the national procedures and practices specific to management and labour. (See annex to this joint statement)
Violence at work is also present in the European Gas Sector. The social partners in the gas sector EPSU and EMCEF for the trade unions and Eurogas for the employers welcome therefore the inter-sectoral agreement. It provides necessary guidance for concluding agreements on violence at work in the gas sector.
EPSU/ EMCEF and Eurogas call upon their affiliated member organisations to implement the inter-sectoral agreement in accordance with the national procedures and practices specific to management and labour as referred to in the agreement before April 2010.
EPSU/ EMCEF and Eurogas will monitor the implementation of the agreement in the gas sector through the sectoral social dialogue committee.
The Secretariats are requested to consider in which way the implementation can best be monitored and provide an update on the implementation to the sectoral social dialogue committee in December 2008 and December 2009 with a final report in 2010 allowing EPSU/EMCEF and Eurogas to consider further action if necessary.
