(16 October 2018) The UN has declared 13 October the day of International Disaster Prevention. PSI, our global federation, issued a statement saluting emergency workers and the work done in extremely difficult circumstances. The overall majority of those emergency service workers are employed in the public sector. PSI calls attention to the  ILO Guidelines on Public Emergency Services.  It can provide guidance to public authorities and employers how to respect safe working environment, union rights and collective bargaining amongst others in these circumstances. Emergency service workers deserve that their workers’ and union rights are respected.
