Brussels, 15 December 2017

Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee for the Hospital Sector

Follow up on the Directive 2010/32/EU on the prevention from sharps injuries in the hospital and healthcare sector

In light of the Work Programme 2017-2019, HOSPEEM and EPSU would like to follow up on the transposition, the use and the effects of the Directive 2010/32/EU on the prevention from sharps injuries in the hospital and healthcare sector with its members (for the full text in all official EU languages see http://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:32010L0032). The primary objective of this survey is to monitor the implementation of the directive on hospital staff in the Member States, more than four years after the directive has been officially set in force and a joint project concluded, with a “Final Report” comprising about 25 country reports and key challenges as the main deliverable. You can access the final report (comprising information on the three regional seminars, the final conference and the various EU countries covered finalised on 15 November 2013) in five languages: EN - FR - DE - ES - PL.

Building on the work done in 2012 and 2013, the Secretariats would now like to collect input from their members in form of an online survey, investigating areas where the implementation and use of the directive been proven beneficial in the prevention of sharps injuries in the hospital and healthcare sector and indicating potential or actual still existing problems with the implementation, the use and/or the effects of the directive. The survey is targeted to HOSPEEM members and EPSU affiliates. The deadline for replies is 22 February 2018. Should the affiliates wish to obtain more detailed information, e.g. from a sample of hospitals or from national agencies, observatories having data and evidence on the issue, the extended deadline is 22 March 2018.

Once the results have been collected, the Secretariats will analyse the data and summarise them in a concise report, to be shared with their members, the European Commission and other relevant stakeholders (such as EU OSHA).
