Home and other careworkers protest over cuts to public spending and jobs in Netherlands

The Hague, 8 November 2014

(13 November 2014) Close to 3000 home care workers gathered to protest against the adoption of a new law on long-term care which would lead to cuts in public spending, closure of care centres and loss of jobs. They sent a strong message to the Dutch Parliament which will consider the law shortly. The homecarers handed in more than 159.000 signatures to protect care services in the Netherlands.

If the government will not consider the proposals from the unions, the FNV unions will start a people's petition to gather 300.000 signatures in May 2015.

The EPSU General Secretary spoke at the meeting expressing solidarity greetings from the EPSU Executive Committee members. The demonstration took place in The Hague, Netherlands, on 8 November 2014.
