‘Health before profits!’ campaign mobilises for World Health Day

demonstration on World Health Day, 7 April, Brussels

(11 April 2024) EPSU and a coalition of civil society organisations held a demonstration on World Health Day as part of their ‘Health before profits!’ European election campaign.

The demonstration was held on Sunday, April 7 at Place Luxembourg, Brussels and was organised by three civil society organisations representing health and care workers, users, campaigners, NGOs and other associations: the European Federation of Public Service Trade Unions (EPSU), Peoples Health Movement and the ‘Our Health is Not For Sale’ Network.

EPSU affiliates from Belgium, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Italy and more joined the demonstration to join the call to protect Europe’s health systems against commercialisation. Speakers at the demonstration particularly highlighted the role that staff shortages and strong public funding play in protecting Europe’s health systems.

The demonstration formed part of the ‘Health before profits… let’s change Europe!’ European election campaign. The campaign identifies seven key areas for current and prospective MEPs to prioritise in their campaigns in order to protect the right to healthcare in Europe. As part of the campaign, a series of materials have been developed exploring these seven key areas which can be used to engage with European election candidates ahead of the elections.
