An extra-ordinary meeting of the EWC was informed of the plans of Gas de France to merger with Suez. The EWC is highly critical and does not support the project. In a unanimous declaration the EWC argued that the merger will result in private oligopolies whose decisions regarding security of supply and investment escape the intervention and scrutiny of workers and citizens. The long-term perspective needed for energy is not guaranteed by the markets nor by the private sector.
