European sectoral employers and trade unions react to Communication on Social Dialogue

European Commission DG Emploi Affaires sociales

(8 February 2023) For the second time in one year, European employers and trade union organisations have come together to react jointly to the recent Commission’s unilateral decision to no longer assume its responsibility to organize sectoral social dialogue committees. The group demands clarity from the European Commission as to the continued financial and organisational support for the European sectoral social dialogue. Despite references in the Communication to its support, the Commission has questioned this and launched ideas about outsourcing. The group further draws parallels with the apparent and unquestioned support of the Commission of the numerous experts’ groups.  As the Communication calls upon the social partners to reach more agreements, they demand the Commission clarifies keeping the responsibility for the logistics and funding of negotiation meetings.
