(2 July, 2025) On 17 June EPSU participated in a special closed-door Eurofound event for social partners to hear the first key preliminary results from the European Working Conditions Survey (EWCS) carried out in 2024.

The EWCS is a key tool to monitor working conditions and track trends in job quality across the EU. The survey is conducted by Eurofound every 5 years since the 1990s, mapping trends and developments across countries, sectors and occupations.

Eurofound follows a multi-dimensional approach to defining and measuring job quality, which captures the complexities and nuances of the world of work. Comprising seven dimensions (physical environment, social environment, work intensity, skills and discretion, working time quality, prospects, and earnings), this framework includes the elements of work which can have an impact, positive or negative, on workers’ health and wellbeing.

In 2024, the EWCS was conducted across Europe with over 35,000 face-to-face interviews completed, where workers were asked 200 questions about their working conditions and experiences of work. You can access the full questionnaire here.

Job quality has moved into focus with the European Commission’s plans for a Quality Jobs Roadmap, to be developed with the social partners before the end of the year.

As key stakeholders, participants were given the opportunity to discuss the findings with researchers and provide comments and feedback on the preliminary results which will be incorporated into and complement Eurofound’s data and feed into the overview report which is currently being prepared. The exchange also highlighted social partner priorities for future research.

The graphs in the presentation can be used in advance of the publication of the overview report but must be labelled as “Preliminary Findings”

In September Eurofound will publish a shorter document that provides an overview of the findings, along with the data tool that will be published on their website. The full overview report will likely be published in Q1 of 2026.

Eurofound have indicated they would be happy to present and share the data at the respective upcoming Social Dialogue Committees. Presentation from the event can be found here.
