A new chapter in building the European trade union movement

Resolution adopted at the EPSU Executive Committee 7-8 April 2021

  1. EPSU joins the  ETUC and European trade unions in expressing solidarity with UK trade unions following the finalisation of  Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA).
  2. Leaving the EU changes the  relationship between the UK and the EU. This will bring new challenges for the European trade union movement.  We reaffirm our commitment to solidarity and cooperation in this new step in our long journey to improve the lives of working people and construct a Europe in which women and men, our communities and our environment are not exploited. We want a socially just Europe based on strong quality public services, democracy and the rule of law.
  3. Employers and governments may change, but trade unionism lives on undivided. We will re-double our efforts to prevent all forms of social, environmental or tax dumping that may arise in this new configuration between the EU and its  Member States and UK.

We support the ETUC’s initial assessment of the TCA (see Resolution of 22 March 2021).  We will fully engage in the steps being taking to reinforce workers’ voices in the implementation of the many different aspects of the Agreement and to strengthen pan-European trade union cooperation.
