Earthquake Turkey and Syria

(7 February 2023) An earthquake hit Turkey and Syria at 2:17 a.m. (CET) on 6th February. The damage is enormous, and the death toll keeps rising, standing at over 7200. Thousands are injured and many ten thousands have lost their homes.  EPSU has expressed its condolences and our sympathies to the Turkish affiliates. Our thoughts are with their members, the families, friends, colleagues and communities of those who lost their lives and injured.

First responders, emergency and health staff, municipal and utility workers are working to safe lives, to provide food, water, medicines, shelter and care to those affected.  Many members of the Turkish affiliates are involved in those rescue operations.

It is a very sad day. We stand in solidarity and EPSU will contribute to the humanitarian aid.

The ITUC- AP Natural Disaster Fund will help support the relief efforts - any amount or pledge would be highly appreciated.
