EPSU sends solidarity greetings to Polish trade unionists

(12 September 2013) EPSU sends it support to the tens of thousands of workers in Poland who are taking part in four days of demonstrations and meetings in protest at government policies.

All three trade union confederations - OPZZ, NSZZ Solidarnosc and Forum ZZ - are supporting the actions which will culminate in a national demonstration in Warsaw on Saturday.

The actions began on Wednesday 11 September with demonstrations outside the ministries of Home Affairs, Justice, Health, Economy, Treasury, Transport and Labour. These then came together for a march past Parliament.

The trade unions are protesting against a range of government policies including labour market deregulation of contracts and working time, health service and pensions reform and lack of support for Polish industry. The unions are also calling for an increase in the minimum wage.

The ETUC has also sent a solidarity message.
