Public service workers demanding a fair deal, 12 December 2023, Brussels

(17 January 2024) Public service unions are in strikes and rallies 18 January in Northern Ireland. EPSU has sent a message of solidarity.

EPSU fully supports the  demands that the UK government should implement pay rises across the province’s public services and not hide behind the excuse that the Northern Ireland Assembly and Executive are required to do this.

While public service workers in the rest of the UK have seen their pay rise over the past year, those in Northern Ireland have been waiting patiently for the pay increases that are essential not just to protect against inflation but also ensure that pay levels in the province keep up with the rest of the country.

The unions know that the UK government has had talks with the five political parties in Northern Ireland and that money is available to make a pay offer. We very much hope that the action this Thursday will make clear the anger of public service workers and push the government into finally delivering a much-needed boost to public service workers’ pay.

U.K. Ireland
