EPSU meets Czech Presidency on 8 December 2022
(8 December 2022) As health and care workers arrive in Brussels to join the protest action, an EPSU delegation met with representatives from the Czech Presidency of the European Union.
The meeting was an opportunity to raise the concerns of carers and demand that the Council of Ministers of Health puts our issues on its agenda. There seems to be a lack of urgency for the problems faced by health and social care workers. One example of this is that Stella Kyriakides, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, is not meeting with the unions.
EPSU used the meeting with Jakub Dvořáček, Deputy Minister of Health, Czech Republic to discuss the situation in many countries, problems for certain professions and labour market patterns for workers from Central and Eastern Europe moving to other countries. Health inequalities are increasing in and between countries.
We agreed to continue our dialogue and explore how a future meeting of the Council of Ministers for Health could address the issue with the relevant social partners.
The meeting took place on Thursday, 8 December in the Prague House. The EPSU delegation included Adam Rogalewski, Policy Officer for Health and Social Services, EPSU; Tuscany Bell, Policy Coordinator for Social Services and Youth, EPSU; Olivier Nyssen, Secretary General, CGSP-Admi; and Jan Willem Goudriaan, General Secretary, EPSU.
