EPSU expresses solidarity with striking ADEDY members

(6 April 2016) On Thursday 7 April, members of Greek public service union ADEDY will go on strike against government measures that will further erode living standards. This week EPSU General Secretary Jan Willem Goudriaan sent a letter to Greek colleagues expressing his support for their industrial action. The letter reads as follows:

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to send you solidarity greetings for your strike action on 7 April, following up your strike on 4 February. The proposed cuts to benefits and pensions and planned increases to direct and indirect taxation mean that both workers and pensioners will see further erosion of their living standards. It is appalling that the government is pushing through these measures when we note from a recent report from the INE research institute that just under half (48 percent) of households now live below the poverty line, while a fifth cannot meet basic needs.

We hope that your action is widely supported and that it forces the government to rethink its proposals.

Yours in solidarity,

Jan Willem Goudriaan, EPSU General Secretary
