EPSU and PSI policy staff meet to discuss priorities and the year ahead

EPSU-PSI joint policy staff meeting January 2021

(1st February 2021) We met to consider the major issues for 2021 and coordinate our work. The impact of the measures to contain the pandemic is huge as jobs and income for many are threatened and public service workers are on the frontline everywhere. It takes a heavy toll on health and other care workers across the world.

Unions play a major role in addressing health and safety, in demanding compensation for the dangerous working conditions and long hours and in developing plans for economic recovery. The crisis shows how crucial public services are. This we can build on and seek structural changes to our economies and investments as part of Green and Social deals.  Addressing climate change is a major challenge and COP26 (Glasgow) will be a key moment for our agenda at the end of the year. The Global Health summit organised by the Italian Presidency of the G20 is another such moment.

Working on care, on social protection, the impact on workers of digitalisation stand out as other such issues.  The meeting was opened by the PSI and EPSU General Secretaries Rosa Pavanelli and Jan Willem Goudriaan respectively. It took place online, 21 January 2021.
