EPSU’s day of action in solidarity with Liberian trade union

(Brussels, 21 February 2017)  A delegation from the European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU) went to the Liberian embassy in Belgium, on Friday 17th of February, in support of the international day of action promoted by Public Services International (PSI). The delegation from the EPSU secretariat was reinforced by shop stewards from EPSU Belgian affiliate CGSP. The delegation presented a letter to a member of the embassy staff, urging the Liberian government to respect trade unions rights and to recognise unions right to organise.

PSI called on its affiliates and allies to send letters to the Liberian government, for the reinstatement of dismissed workers, demanding the recognition of the right to organize for public service workers and the respect of trade union rights for all workers in Liberia. EPSU and its affiliates did so during the day of action on February 18. During the day also Ukrainian, Moldovan, Russian and Romanian affiliates showed solidarity to the Liberian public sector unions. The 60 unions in the Central European constituency meeting sent a collective message of solidarity.
