Enough is enough! Stop the social damage!

EPSU Press communication

(24 January 2012) The European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU) is supporting and participating in the press conference that the European Trade Union Confederation is organizing on 25 January. EPSU has been at the forefront of the mobilisation against austerity and for public services, like our European mobilisitation of November 30th shows.

We call to put an end to the social damage and to stop austerity measures that eat away at the purchasing power of workers and cast a shadow over the future of our societies. We are doing so through protest movements across Europe, demanding a halt to austerity measures and more social justice and fairness.

The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) is launching a campaign to support European workers in their demands.

A gathering of European trade union leaders will take place in front of the Council of the European Union from 13:10 onwards.

For the ETUC, there are solutions! Alternatives do exist! We hold other cards in our hands. In the run-up to the European Summit of 30 January, announced in December as focusing on growth and jobs, and a general strike organised by its Belgian member organisations, the ETUC will hold a press conference on 25 January 2012 to present the alternatives proposed by European trade unions.

We hope to see you there.

Speakers:
- Bernadette Ségol, ETUC General Secretary.
- Brendan Barber, General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC). (UK).
- Annelie Buntenbach, Member of the Executive Board of the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB).
