(23 June 2010) Dave Prentis has just been re-elected general secretary of UNISON in the UK with a a 67% share of the vote in a ballot of the membership. Dave is a vice-president of EPSU and has been general secretary of UNISON since 2001.
The result of the election was announced on the same day as the UK government revealed the scale of the cuts it is planning in an emergency budget. Dave said: "We face critical times as a union and it is important that we remain united, strong and focused on dealing with the challenges that face our members."
EPSU general secretary Carola Fischbach-Pyttel said: "I would like to send congratulations to Dave on his re-election and solidarity greetings to him and his members, who like many of our members across Europe are facing a tough fight to defend their jobs, pay and conditions and the quality of the services they provide."
