(26 March 2020 ) EPSU today wrote to the Prime Minister and Labour Minister calling on them to withdraw any proposals for legislation that would weaken trade union and employment rights.

The letter expressed deep concern that during this time of crisis the Croatian government is planning to introduce this kind of emergency legislation without any consultation with the trade union movement.

EPSU underlined the importance of working with trade unions to address health and safety in particular, highlighting the fact that only yesterday the trade union confederations in Italy were able to negotiate a new agreement with Ministry of Health to address concerns about the lack of personal protective equipment for health and care workers.

While recognising that emergency measures are required in the current situation, EPSU maintains that there is no justification to deny trade unions a role and fully supports the Croatian unions’ rejection of these proposals.
