19 June 2013: EPSU call for European tax justice day of action

Request for coordinated action: European tax justice week 17-23 June - action day 19 June

Version FR ci-dessous

The EPSU Executive Committee of last April endorsed the next series of actions and policy demands as part of the EPSU campaign against tax fraud and avoidance (by the wealthiest and transnational corporations) "Europe's missing €1Tn: we want it back!" (launched last November to run until the European elections May 2014).

These include a European Tax Justice Week on 17-23 June, to coincide with top level discussions and possibly decisions against tax fraud at the meetings of the G8 (17-18 June) and EU ECOFIN (21 June), and International Public Services Day (23 June).

During that week, on 19 June, in cooperation with our Belgian affiliates, we will organise a media stunt in front of the Stock Exchange in Brussels, calling for immediate binding EU measures to ban tax havens, oblige multinationals to pay their fair share of taxes that we need to finance public services, and to stop austerity. Inflated balloons with names of tax havens will symbolise “flying/hidden money” which under-resourced tax administrations cannot get back to finance public services.
