11 March – One year since the pandemic

EPSU General Circular Nr 03 (2021):  To all Affiliated unions,  To all members of the Executive Committee

Request to publish a contribution of the EPSU President and General Secretary

(Brussels, 8 March 2021) Dear Colleagues,

11 March - we remember it is one year since the World Health Organisation declared the spread of the Sars-COV-2 virus and COVID19 a pandemic. Since a year and in some countries longer, health and social care workers have been under tremendous pressure and al public service workers have been at the frontline of the pandemic. The impact of partial or total lockdowns on our economies and societies has been enormous and in particular on with women, youth and young workers and the vulnerable. Vaccinations are now rolled out but in way that underlines the inequalities of our world. We campaign to ensure vaccines become available to all. And we want that trade unions are involved in the plans for recovery that contributes to realise a more socially just and environmentally sustainable future.

To remember it is one year and recall the work of our members, Mette and undersigned have drafted a short article. Please find it attached. Several colleagues are already seeking publication and especially the President and Vice-President. We ask you to publish it on your unions’ webpage, Facebook or other social media. Together we can give this strong message to our members and others.  You can co-sign the article as member of the EPSU Executive Committee if you place it and if you want. We would appreciate it. And please do not hesitate to inform your media of this action of Europe’s public service unions.

If you need assistance with the translation, please do not hesitate to contact us.

It is part of our activities leading to the 23 June when we will celebrate the work of our members during the pandemic.

Thank you for your kind assistance.

In Solidarity,

Jan Willem Goudriaan

EPSU General Secretary
