Spring Alliance Campaign on EU 2020

The Spring Alliance is a broad-based movement pushing for an EU that places people and planet at the centre of policymaking. It was established by four leading civil society organisations – the European Environmental Bureau, the European Trade Union Confederation, Social Platform and Concord – and is composed of groups and individuals from civil society and beyond.

Spring Alliance addresses EU summit

(25 March 2010) The Spring Alliance the group of trade unions, environmental organizations, social action groups and development NGOs of which EPSU is a member, sent a letter to the Spring Council asking for different targets in the EU 2020 strategy. The alliance suggest:
Improve the current greenhouse gas reduction target within the band agreed at the Climate Conference in Bali in 2007, so within 25% and 40% by industrialised countries, and this on the basis of domestic reductions.

“Spring alliance” of Trade Unions and NGOs outline social and environmental agenda to President Barroso

(Brussels, September 28, 2009) --- NGOs and trade unions met with European Commission President José Manuel Barroso Monday at a Brussels conference held by the Spring Alliance.
The meeting came with high expectations in the social and environmental fields as well as on the international scene, as the world enters a critical phase: deep in economic crisis, with EU unemployment at a ten-year high and climate change an indisputable reality.
