Strike at energy company
The EL&IT energy union and Fagforbundet municipal union are taking further strike action at the NTE energy company following the failure of mediation. Government ends private care home strike
The government has brought an end to the strike in private care homes with compulsory arbitration. The government argued that the strike was life-threatening to patients. The union response was that it was, in fact, the low level of staffing in private care homes that posed the real threat. The unions are hopeful that arbitration will produce a positive result in terms of ensuring that workers in private care homes get the same pay and pensions as those in the public sector. Striking for equal pensions
Workers are on strike in private nursing homes following the failure to negotiate improved pensions with the NHO Service employers’ organisation. Not only do private nursing homes offer much lower pensions than in the public and non-profit sector but the retirement age is also five years higher at 67. Read more at > Fagforbundet (NO)
Waste sector strike avoided
The NTF transport union has agreed a deal for workers in the waste sector following mediation. The union had been planned a strike for 24 August but this was called off. There is a general wage increase for all workers of NOK 1.50 (€ 0.25) an hour while the union is particularly please that the minimum wage in the collective agreement goes up by just over 9% to NOK 150 (€20.50) an hour. Unions pleased with pay deal following strike action
Public sector unions called off their strike action earlier this month after securing a better pay offer from employers in the municipal and state sectors. Along with a general annual increase of NOK 1200 (€1600), there also higher payments for weekend work and guarantees of equal treatment for temporary workers. Public sector unions gradually build up strike action
Several trade unions in the public sector are involved in strike action that began on Thursday 24 May after attempts at mediation in pay negotiations failed. The unions involved are coordinating their action and gradually increasing the number of workers coming out on strike. At the centre of the dispute are the unions’ efforts to ensure that pay increases in the public sector are in line with those in the private sector. State sector negotiations in mediation
Negotiations in the state sector have moved into mediation as there was some distance between the trade union demands and the response from the employers. The mediation process runs until 23 May and the trade union side has already given notice of its plans for strike action should the mediation process fail. Read more at > LO Stat (NO)
Local government negotiations broken off for mediation
Negotiations over a new local government agreement have been broken off and now move into mediation. Among the key union demands are a general increase with a higher increase on the lowest salaries along with increased supplements for working anti-social hours. Union confederation submits pay claim to private employers
The blue collar LO confederation has put forward a pay claim to the Spekter employers’ organisation that covers workers in health, transport and other public services employed in the public sector. The claim includes real wage growth and a general increase of NOK 2438 (€323). The unions also want to see better conditions for temporary agency workers, improved pay for working unsocial hours and action to improve working conditions for older workers. Municipal unions submit their negotiating demands to the employers
Fagforbundet and the other local government unions in the LO confederation have set out their key bargaining demands for 2012. They are looking for compensation for inflation with increases to help the lower paid and close the gender pay gap as well as higher pay for working unsocial hours. The union will ensure they take account of the particular interests of young workers, graduates and temporary workers. They are calling on municipalities to directly employ more workers rather than rely on agency staff and they want higher starting pay rates and career development plans to make the local government sector a more attractive place to work.
