Irish Minister of European Affairs, Dick Roche addresses the 7th EPSU Congress, 16 June
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am delighted to have been invited here today to address the EPSU Congress. I welcome the timely focus of your Congress on public services in Europe which link to policy responses on employment, sustainability, access issues and service quality. I consider it very appropriate that I should come to speak to you as we reach the end of Ireland’s EU Presidency term which has had as its theme, ‘Europeans working together for quality of life’. Public services, of course, (...)

The Swedish Minister for Policy Coordination, Pär Nuder, addresses Congress Tuesday 15 June
Pär Nuder talked about three big challenges for the welfare of the future and outlined that the biggest and most important challenge is to make it attractive to work in the public sector.
“The public sector, in Western Europe in particular, is something that we can be very proud of.
But we cannot be satisfied. There is something fundamental that we have to change. There is an unspoken thought which still exists in the health care sector, in the school and in the social welfare sector.
That (...)

Carola Fischbach-Pyttel, EPSU General Secretary, presented the activity and finance reports
EPSU has made significant advances in the last four years. It gives me a great sense of pride and satisfaction to make this statement from the outset.

A series of decisive external factors have impacted on our political and trade union life:
The unilateral war against Iraq, opposed by Europe’s trade unions and citizens, left a horrible aftermath of death and violation of human rights, and has (...)

Anna, Carola, friends, it is a pleasure to visit the general assembly of EPSU in this lovely city, to see some old friends and meet new ones, and to be able to pay tribute to the work of EPSU as a key pillar of the European Trade Union Confederation.
