Four of the main trade union organisations - CGT, FO, FSU and Solidaires - took part in strike action and protests on 18 March in defence of public services and in protest at the government's "responsibility pact" with its primary aim of reducing costs for employers. The unions estimate they mobilised around 240000 workers in 140 towns and cities across France, highlighting the need for urgent action on jobs as well as maintaining their call for pay increases in the public sector.

Unions sign innovation pact in public administration

Competitiveness pact negotiations get underway
Trade unions are in the midst of challenging sector negotiations on measures agreed at cross-sector level.
