The EPSU President, Anne-Marie Perret, and the EPSU General Secretary, Carola Fischbach-Pyttel, welcomed the 600 delegates to Congress.
The Congress was formally addressed by John Monks, General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC). He outlined the challenges ahead for the European Trade Union movement, giving particular emphasis to the need for concrete EU social measures in the face of the economic crisis.
Congress delegates also heard from the President of the Party of European Socialists (PES), Poul Rasmussen.
Mr. Rasmussen urged the PES and trade unions to continue to work together to achieve a strong social Europe.

Congresses
