Next Round of Discussions on Transnational Agreement on Equality GdfSuez

(14 February 2011) The trade union group and management considered a number of issues to commence the negotiations, 11 February 2011, Paris.
- A presentation was made by Julien Viteau for Atidem (Aleteya) setting out the European legislative framework on equality as well as providing an overview of a number of issues across countries, such as the possibility for positive action, the situation regarding (paid) parental leave, equal pay and maternity leave. A range of questions was raised and observations made. The importance of a robust set of data for the different countries and business units was underlined.
- Management agreed the proposal made by the union group regarding the composition of the Negotiating Group, 31 January 2011. The composition reflects that a large number of colleagues for a large nr of countries can be represented. It takes account of the size of the workforce in different countries and ensures that the size of the group is workable. The European Federations leading the negotiations (EPSU, EMF, EMCEF) have also agreed the procedures for reaching a result.
- The representatives will be mandated by the trade unions. And while the EWC members will be informed of the process, the group is not a work group of the EWC. A number of practical issues were considered.
- An exchange of views took place regarding the objectives for management and the trade unions to reach an agreement on equality between men and women. The union group stressed a solid implementation process and tangible improvements for the workers in the company. Management provided a number of targets.
- A calendar of meetings was agreed and the next meeting will be 15 March. There will be a preparatory meeting and a negotiating meeting.

A previous meeting took place on 31 January 2011
