Joint workshop “Next generation trade and investment agreements: Upcoming challenges for public services” organised by EPSU, ETUC, AK Europa and ÖGB Europabüro, 19 November 2019, EPSU offices, 40 Rue Joseph II – 3rd floor, 1000 Brussels, Belgium.
The workshop will focus on how to resist pressure under current services and investment rules to liberalise/privatise public services and to fully protect the right preserve, expand, restore, and create public services without trade treaty interference.
Discussion will be organised in three blocks:
- Overview of recent policy developments
- Capacity building: latest research and activities (beyond CETA, TiSA, GATS…)
- Network building: exchange between policy actors, trade unions, civil society and scientific expertise
The workshop will include a presentation by Scott Sinclair, Director, Trade and Investment Research Project Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) of the recent paper ‘Beyond NAFTA 2.0: Toward a progressive trade agenda for people and planet’.
A detailed agenda will follow.
A background note for this workshop is attached, together with a update on some recent trade developments.
The working language will be English.
Participation (maximum 25-30) is open to EPSU members, ETUC trade committee members and invited guests. Participants are expected to pay their own costs. Lunch will be provided.
