EPSU expresses support for striking municipal workers in Netherlands

EPSU affiliated unions AbvaKabo and CNV Publieke Zaak are engaged in a conflict with the Dutch municipal employers. The employer refused to award a decent pay increase comparable to other sectors and is waging an attack on working conditions such as the possibility for fire-fighters, ambulance drivers and some other groups to retire at 55, and paid parental leave. Strikes are ongoing in Amsterdam were refuse collectors are not collecting waste and harbour authorities will not collect harbour fees e.g. Further actions are foreseen elsewhere such as in Rotterdam where public transport will be free 3 and 4 September. EPSU has sent a message of solidarity to both unions. To read further, please check the EPSUCOB@ newsletter
