Editorial – EPSU starts the year with EU Presidency success - Message from the General Secretary

(19 January 2010) I hope that 2010 has started as well for you as it has for EPSU. We are very happy to announce that we have received welcome support from the Spanish Presidency. As you can see from the attached story (http://www.epsu.org/a/6090) the Presidency has agreed to formalise the social dialogue process in the National Administration sector.

The First Vice-President of Spain, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega has shown real vision in taking this decisive action. To establish, in a time of economic crisis, a European wide committee for national administration workers and employers, is a bold strategic step. It illustrates a commitment to partnership, to negotiation and to jointly finding a solution to the difficulties faced by public services.

I would like to thank Nadja Salson in the EPSU secretariat for her energy and drive, which have played such a strong role in getting us to this point. I would also like to thank the Presidency of the NEA Standing Committee (http://www.epsu.org/r/4) and all colleagues who have contributed to this major political breakthrough.

Over the next 5 month, EPSU will be working closely with the Spanish EU Presidency to make sure that this decision provides a solid foundation for formalised social dialogue in the sector.
